EVERYONE DESERVES A DOULA

Since Balanced Mama’s founding in 2020, a significant amount of research has been conducted on Arkansas' maternal and fetal outcomes. The data suggests that overall  outcomes for birthing women in Arkansas have worsened.  These statistics support a need for intervention and systemic change. One way that poor maternal and fetal outcomes can improve is through the support and services of doulas.  In response to a continued concern over the care of birthing people in Arkansas, the Balanced Mama  team acknowledges the critical need for accessibility to services. The team also understands that there is a great need for community education, empowerment, and awareness. In response to these needs, the Balanced Mama team formed a nonprofit, Everyone Deserves a Doula.

Several members of EDD and Balanced Mama are involved in efforts and other groups who are pushing for statewide change of policy regarding the birthing people of Arkansas, but EDD exists to begin the practical work of creating change in our small corner of Arkansas. Regardless of governmental policy change, we want to begin the work of education and support for Central Arkansas families. Thus, EDD exists to make services, support, equipment, and supplies relating to the birthing year (nine months of pregnancy and three months of postpartum) more accessible.
